Fun(d) Raiser....Sharon Historical Society

Last evening we attended an "Early Buying Cocktail Party"  for benefit of The Sharon Historical Society. Held under two fairly sizable tents on the back and side lawns at the society, one got to see and purchase everything from antiques from the 1700's to items from today. All of the items were donated from members of the organization, towns people, and a fairly local business. There were 50¢ items and items in the hundreds of dollars. The turnout was a nice size, and I would guess there was probably 125 to 150 people there, but I am only guessing. There was an entry charge to attend this function, so that also helped to raise more funds. We came home with a floor lamp and gift to be named later. We had a nice time and enjoyed the evening with friends afterwards back at our house on the screened-in porch. A nice summer night I think, was had by all....

The sale was open to the public today and tomorrow at no charge, and I hope that the organization did well. I admire this organization, its leadership and members. They work hard to preserve and teach our towns history to those who inquire and for that I am grateful.

Lots of folks , all looking for that "special" something...

Discussing items...

Hats...Hats, and more hats!

Checking out the jewelry

At a tag sale, one has to be willing to dig!

Plates and Stickers....#1

I have a friend whom I have met but once in my life who gets a kick out of how people "decorate" the backs of the automobiles with stickers of all types and shapes, sizes colors, sayings, political announcements and more. His name is Terry and he has come up with some good ones in his travels, which he posts in his blog.
(an interesting blog most often too!...http://ctdevilsadvocate.com/

Sunday morning I found this one for his attention (and yours of course!) I liked the plate especially. Where else but Vermont?

(notice I even used Vt. green lettering today?)

Storm brewing....Sharon, Connecticut

This morning started with a round of quite violent thunderstorms from about 6:45 till 7:30 a.m.......Things calmed down till early in the afternoon, when another band of energy slid out of the northwest and came zooming into northwest Connecticut. I was able to catch with my digital what I believe was the final energy being added to the brew and by the time it hit the North Kent area, all the heavens opened up. By a video I saw on the web, hail, strong winds, a monster downpour and lightening beyond nailed that community for a few wild minutes. I do hope no one was injured..

Endorsement

Funny post. Not your typical offering from me. Panera Bread™ Restaurant's has added, at least here in the northeast, a special salad for the summer. I had one in Torrington two weeks ago. Then I had it again in Poughkeepsie about ten days ago after a trip out to the west.

Lettuce (two varieties) mandarin oranges, strawberries, blueberries, walnuts, grilled chicken (I think I'm forgetting something)....whatever, it's delicious, and I highly recommend. Healthy, and satisfying. Oh, I know....fat-free sesame-seed dressing.

Try one soon!

Only at xtramart™...

Two weeks ago Sunday, I did my weekly ritual of stopping for coffee at my old store before going to church. As I pulled in to park, I knew something caught my eye that was strange, or out-of-place. I finally stopped laughing by the time the sermon started, but, not much before.......I'll let the rest of you kind-of come up with your own thoughts, laughs, fill-in-the-blanks, whatever. And if any of you knows any scoop on to whom this belongs....please, don't tell me. I don't want to know.

"God is great. Beer is good, and people are crazy"

Today's title, if you didn't know, are lyrics to a popular song on country radio today. It's been a crazy couple of weeks since Memorial Day weekend for me, both in my own life with some health issues, business issues, and just a bunch of stuff it seems. I was thinking people are crazy on multiple occasions.

Now in my picture below, meet Erin if you haven't. Erin is the bird aficionado at The Sharon Audubon Center. More than likely you've run into her someplace local showing off an owl or a hawk or releasing an eagle or something. If birds are involved locally, she's probably nearby. The other day she walked into my store with a parrot. "Careful she says as I walk towards her....he doesn't like men!" I froze. She then went on to tell me that this bird is an old bird, and someone just threw it away....Threw it away!!!  I forget where she got it, but she told me she thought that it might have been from a couple who argued a lot, because it (the bird) didn't say nice things about a male of a certain name. Whoa! Parrots talk! Kinda makes you mind wander a bit, no? She said she couldn't take him out in public very often because, well, you never know just what he might say!

My point tied to the blog theme for today? People are crazy. The week I had at times had me thinking it, and well, this gave me a bit more of a confirmation. Hopefully, Erin gets the old guy retrained. Can you teach and old parrot new words?

Hope you all have a good rest of the week.

Picnic Time for Teddy Bears

"I like water...."

"Dear Lord....Thank you for this picnic..."

"...I promise to be a good little teddy bear."

"Not much here, so I think I'll walk around.."

"hmmm....nothing but crumbs!"

"Yes... I am VERY Patriotic!"

"Well I certainly hope this table has more.."

"I know that is a milk bottle, but what is in there?"

"Sorry flags, but you gotta move..."

"I love to crunch these bottles!"

"Wonder what's over on this deck..."

"Think I'll climb on up and see..."

"You with the camera...I am coming UP!"

"...providing I can wiggle thru here...."

"Izzie's, limes(yuck!), blue corn chips...nah....boring stuff for bears here.."

"I think I should take that radio.....that'll make 'em sweat!"

"Ohhhhhh, a blankeeee...."

"and someone sweet has been lying on here....I can smell it!"

"I think I'll just play with this for a while.."

"hmmm...wonder what I should do?"

"perhaps I can make it into a sweater"

"a nip here...a tuck there...."

"You know...."
"I think...

"I'm just gonna..."

"roll around for a bit..."

"what to do..stay..or go?"

"maybe just one more tug..."

"what are you looking at?...."

"you know...."

"I am OUT OF HERE!"

"Blanket too!"

"you want it...you gotta come get it! Show over! See ya next year!"

Sharon Band and more...

Each year, the Sharon Center School Band plays a song at the Memorial Day Service. Bless their kind hearts, they are all youngsters, and sometimes, well, let's just say, you know, they are very youthful and their inexperience will show. Not this year! Myself, and everyone else was extremely impressed by their sound. They were great! Congratulations to them and a big WELL  DONE!

Mr. & Mrs. Clark..I am guessing, but I would think he was perhaps a member of the  Royal Air Force?

True love never quits.....

Hots dogs are for young fellers......
and for the good Doctor as well!

This post ends my coverage of the Memorial Day Events in Sharon Connecticut , in the year 2012. I do hope you enjoyed the pic's from the last few days, and that maybe it gave you a bit of a feel for our fine , little town.
