January Fog

It's been a crazy last few days in Sharon, weather-wise. There has been a stream of warmer air pumping into this corner of the U.S., melting snow, and creating just a whole bunch of fog. Morning, noon and night. I just came in from Millerton this evening and the normal eight to ten minute drive took closer to fifteen. "Thick as pea soup!"

So, since we've been dealing with this fog, I was in the mood for a nice sunset or a clear lake or a bright sunrise. I caught this picture one night early last week. It helps, don't you think?

Winter sunset

The cup, I prefer, is half-full. The sun is working its way back north. Our days are longer. The promise of spring is one day closer. December and almost half of January is behind us.

Our cup is half-full, if not more.

They Work!

So I acquired a metal roof this summer from a near-bye building which was only about five years old and was being dismantled. My wife and I always wanted a green metal roof to go with our red barn and this one sort-of dropped into our hands ( it paid to ask a question). This fall we had it installed and my buddy who installed it for us added these snow guards. He warned me that snow builds up on metal roof, then lets loose and slides. These "stops" he installed will slow it and break it up as well, so it hopefully all doesn't come sliding down in one big kabooom! Now, we have but a few inches of snow on the ground up on the hill, but it was interesting to me to see these little heavy-duty guards do as they are intended. Our barn is not heated in any way, so the under side is as cold as the top side. Not sure if that is good or bad.

My buddy warned me to not slam the barn door and then walk out. Sudden vibration......kaboom..... avalanche.......Wisdom!

It's late, I know...

Sharon Hospitals Annual Gingerbread Village

Always a pleasure to see. The amount of hours put in from Chef Waldron, and his "little elves" is amazing, as is their final product. I applaud their efforts. If you want to go see it, you'd better go soon. It probably be bird food before long. It is in the main lobby on west side of the building.

Red Sky at Night, Sailors delight...

~but it really was a dark, grey sky, except for about thirty seconds, when the above happened....

Icy start over Gager's Swamp

Two mornings last week our temperatures dropped well below the average for this time of year. I think that actually the whole country was kind of caught up in that big high pressure which swept down from Canada all the way to Texas, across to the east coast and up to New England. I think it was about 8ยบ above when I caught this shot as I was headed into work.

It has since warmed up. Thank you Lord.
